Back to Arcohaem Landing

Welcome to Serendipita

The World of Serendipita is remarkably varied. It's a high fantasy sandbox where anything you can imagine probably already happened. Serendipita contains everything from the harsh deserts of Styxas to the arctic wastes of Arcohaem. All manners of flora and fauna exist and can be found. As a side note, there aren't religions in this universe. This world was created by Avery Gilmer. All credit goes to him.

The Five Realms of Serendipita:

  1. Styxas
    • Easternmost realm
    • Primary source of Serendipita's eathyst
    • Made up of primarily harsh deserts
  2. Fol'Gar'Eth
    • Northernmost realm
    • Studies Ether
    • Incredibly mysterious and secretive
    • Located in a dank river valley
  3. Terragon
    • Central realm
    • The most modern realm
    • Citizens use late 90s - early 2000s E-Tech
    • They're significant consumers of Eathyst
  4. Delapagos
    • Southernmost realm
    • Serendipita's tropics
    • Culture similar to Jamaica + India
  5. Arcohaem
    • Westernmost realm
    • One of the largest realms; containing 56 tribes and 4 factions
    • Primary Eathyst refinery for Serendipita due to geothermal energy
    • In the midst of an enormous civil war for the past 10 years
    • Primarily arctic mountains, with a few hot springs due to being atop mostly dormant volcanic caverns

Ether

Magic doesn't exist. Everything unnatural in Serendipita is powered by a particle called Ether. It's invisible, and intangible until condensed and shaped. It's remarkably important to all of society, but still poorly understood. Ether enters the world through "valves," which are points in space, time, people, or any manner of objects.

The following terminology is used by the citizens of Serendipita:

Original Variant
Spell Spin
Spellcaster Funneler
Ether User
Magic Ether
Magic Item E-Tech
Ether Item
Wizard Scholar
Sorcerer Conduit
Warlock Fanatic
Lunatic

Ether is a complex and young study. However, here is the general gist of the raw numbers used in its study:

Unit Measurement in Pits Equivalent Eathyst Power Source Effect Grade
Pit 1 Particle Brief flicker I
Pot 2 Grain Flash of light II
Pite 4 Pebble Ember III
Pote 8 Rock Sparks IV
Pyte 16 Shard 0-4 LVL Spins V
Kilopyte 1,024 Gem 5-6 LVL Spins VI
Megapyte 1 Million Node 7 LVL spins VII
Gigapyte 1 Billion Boulder 8 LVL spins VIII
Terrapyte 1 Trillion Megalith 9 LVL spins IX
Petapyte 1 Quadrillion Freighter Shipment The Stuff of Legends X

Funnelers

Funnelers are individuals that use Ether. Funnelers have what's known as a "Folcryst gland," which draws Ether directly from its home dimension and condenses it into a usable form that the funneler can shape. They aren't common, and they aren't uncommon.

Funnelers are inert until they unlock their abilities by "flooding." These moments, colloquially referred to as "floods," typically involve intense stress, trauma, or exposure to ether-rich environments. Funnelers aren't abundant or rare in Serendipita.

E-Tech

E-Tech harnesses Ether using a form of crystalized Ether called Eathyst.

Eathyst is mined in the deserts of Styxas, refined in the Volcanoes of Arcohaem, and studied with deep secrecy in Fol'Gar'Eth. As my lengthy conversations with Avery have shown, Eathyst is complicated. It's essentially solid Ether that produces Ether in very small quantities. Its purity and how well it's refined also greatly improve its Ether production.

E-Tech is extremely varied; it's used in everything from trains to kitchen appliances. It's akin to the discovery of electricity in that way, but it's much more powerful.

History

It's 12c 1266, amidst the Industrial Revolution. Rudimentary computer-like E-Tech is already being invented in Terragon, and the whole world is changing by the minute. Anything that could happen likely already has. The universe resets after calamities. This knowledge is in the back of everyone's minds but they can't place it. It's been 12 cycles now.
